Toffee vs Caramel: Which Has More Calories?
Gram for gram they are very close, but toffee usually edges out caramel on calories because it is cooked drier (almost no water) and carries a higher proportion of butterfat, whereas caramel retains more moisture from cream or milk - both land roughly in the 130-160 calories per ounce range.

What it means
- Both candies are built from sugar plus dairy fat, so their calorie density is similar and dominated by sugar and fat.
- Toffee is cooked to the hard-crack stage and contains almost no water, so more of its weight is sugar and butterfat - which tends to nudge calories per gram slightly higher.
- Caramel is cooked to a softer stage and holds more water from added cream or milk, so a bite can carry marginally fewer calories for the same weight.
- Coatings and mix-ins (chocolate, nuts) can swing the totals more than the base recipe difference does, so compare actual labels for a specific product.
